I'm so excited! Thanks to a librarian named Susan Shell at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Library in Havelock, N.C., I now have several of my very first published news and feature articles. See the link in the left column entitled, "Windsock Articles."
When I first transitioned into the "Fleet," as we called the shift from bootcamp/specialty training into the full-time, day-to-day Marine Corps, my Gunnery Sergeant told me that I should start keeping everything I wrote and had published. She said I would need and want them one day. I didn't listen and expected to have time to gather such articles later, but the time never came. I went off to advanced photography school and then on my first overseas deployment. Years passed and I never found the time. What a shame, huh? Out of nearly 400 articles I penned, I only have located a couple dozen.
Moral of the story: Save your work!
